Many jobs are carried out on Quebec's roads, and numerous workplace accidents occur every year. All too often, the workers who are injured or die are road signallers, who are closely exposed to traffic.

The services of a flagman or flagwoman may be required when it is necessary to control traffic due to roadworks, exceptional events, sporting events or competitions, particularly when :

vehicles must be stopped or slowed down in the vicinity of a work area or event;
traffic must flow in a single lane, alternating in both directions;
the situation makes it impossible to see a work area or event (e.g., at the bottom of a slope or on a curve).

With the exception of specific situations, the traffic signaller must not direct traffic when the speed limit displayed on the white-background sign is greater than 70 km/h.

This training course, designed in particular with the standards reference Tome V - Road Signs and Signals, presents the essential elements that signallers working on roadworks need to know.
