The primary explosion hazards associated with molten metal arise from contact with water or damp materials, which causes instant vaporization and violent ejection of molten metal. Other hazards include flammable contaminants, the accumulation of dust or gases (such as acetylene), and explosions of nearby high-voltage electrical equipment.
To prevent these hazards, it is essential to strictly prohibit the introduction of any damp substances or objects into molten metal, ensure that containers are dry, and avoid hermetically sealed containers.
This training covers the risks and preventive measures to ensure safe work practices at the Rio Tinto site.
